Met Gala is the biggest night in fashion and the honouree this year was Japanase fashion label, Comme des Garçons. The looks may be a little out there to wear to a party or a wedding but in a battle of H&M, Topshop, Zara, River Island and New Look, here are some looks that you might get away with for a cheaper price.
1. Kendall Jenner in La Perla lingerie.
One of the riskiest of the night is this look by Kendall Jenner who wore 85,000 crystals on her body and a simple black thong. This isn’t a look to copy unless you’re going to the Met Ball and you’re Kendall Jenner. However, high street brands offer less-risky options. Going from the most expensive, Topshop’s collaboration with Sam Faiers bring a close match to Jenner’s look for £75. The lace train and high slit bares resemblance to La Perla’s slip as well as the noticeable lingerie underneath. Up next, River Island sells this sequined maxi dress for £70. Although it doesn’t include the slit of Kendall’s dress, the sequins are a close match to those that fall upon her body as well as the mesh bottom collaborating with the black body. If you wanted to be slightly edgier than Kendall then Zara sells this black mesh dress with metal embellishments for £29.99. You’ll need to pair it with some black
underwear like Kendall too as you don’t want to expose yourself to the public at the event you’ll be attending… Unless you do? The next look is from New Look as it is potentially a dress to wear on the beach but if you’re going to a beach
party, what’s stopping you from wearing this? This double split dress is only £19.99 and should probably be worn with underwear. Not probably; definitely! Finally, H&M don’t offer a super close resemblance to Kendall’s look but this body suit with a dress attached is just as close! Although the model is shown wearing it with shorts, if you’re feeling risky like Ms Jenner and you have a certain person to impress like A$AP
Rocky, then wear it without for just £12.99.
2. Behati Prinsloo in Topshop
Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo returned the the Met Gala after giving birth to her daughter Dusty. Part of the Topshop crew, Ms Prinsloo avoided bridal in this perfect white cutout dress. It’s hard to match this dress without having to shop in the bridal sections of the high streets stores chosen but some retailers offer a similar look but shorter. Although you can’t actually buy this dress from Topshop, the brand sells a cute white cutout dress that hits the knee for their petite shoppers and is the most expensive of the brands but is still only £36. The cutout on the front is similar to Behati’s with an added slit for the perfect summer party. Another short petite dress comes from River Island for £35. The asymmetric lines of this dress contrast with the original Topshop gown but the thin straps and body-con look are in line with Ms Prinsloo. Out of all the brands, only Zara sells a floor length white gown close to Behati’s that isn’t a wedding gown. The straps match the Topshop dress like the other two options but the length is the winner here but just make sure that you’re going to a party with no grass or wine as you don’t want to ruin this £29.99 dress forever. New Look is selling this lacy white dress on sale at £10 and it might not resemble much of Behati’s dress other than the colour but the cutouts relate to the cutout on the front of her dress and also the back, even if this one has a high back. Finally, H&M offer the simplest of copies that really only match the original dress in the colour and the basic fit and straps but for £8.99, this casual white jersey will mean that you can copy Behati’s look for any day of the week and not just parties! You can even style it like H&M have for a simple work or university look.
3. Zendaya in Dolce & Gabbana
Fashion icon at just 20 years old, Zendaya once again rocked up to the Met Gala in a gorgeous gown. It’s not hard to believe that high street brands won’t have any dresses resembling this as there are multiple prints of parrots on this yellow floor length gown. However, the prints and certain colours are easy to pull off for casual and party wear. Again starting off with the most expensive and also the closest look, H&M’s coral midi dress matches the hints of orange in Zendaya’s dress and will cost you £69.99. This beautiful dress is worth the money and will brighten up any room you walk into. Yellow dresses are hard to come by and that’s why with River Island, the red in the original dress is the focus point of this bardot print dress for £45. With added sleeves, this dress gives the option of sheltering your arms when then night gets colder unlike Zendaya’s who would need a coat if there weren’t bright lights flashing down upon her. This short yellow print dress from Topshop is a cutesie version of Zendaya’s and is the perfect dress to wear on a super hot day for just £39.99. The way this dress flows and the off-shoulder cut brings a youthfulness that certainly matches Zendaya perfectly! Matching the yellow again, New Look’s tall yellow midi dress also matches the blues in the parrots as well as adding some purples too. For £29.99, this cold-shoulder look brings sunshine to the everyday vibes of the world so why not wear it to work to make people take notice? Last but not least (unless you mean the least amount of money spent), Zara brings this “LONG DRESS WITH EXPOSED SHOULDERS” look to the party. Relating to the oranges in the original dress, this £25.99 dress also matches the bardot cut and the flowy bottom will help reign in the end of the bodycon era for summer and will give your body room to breathe in the sweltering heat.
